THE STORY
Omni-Music has a twenty-one year plus history of music entertainment. While many of its engagements have been in Birmingham and Huntsville, they have played at prestigious engagements in Selma, Tuscaloosa, Decatur, Tuskegee, Atlanta, St. Louis. The group is managed by Horace Carney, an accomplished musician who holds a B.A. in Music from the prominent Fisk University, a M.A. in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music and a Ph.D. in Music Theory from the University of Iowa. Dr. Carney is also a member of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and directs the Vocal-Jazz Ensemble at Alabama A&M University where he is Coordinator of the music program.
Omni-Music began in 1994 at the request of Beverly Richardson after the passing of her husband, Birmingham’s music legend Avery Richardson. Carney was a keyboard member of the re-known Avery Richardson Band. Omni-Music has appeared with four to six members throughout the years. Its versatility can be seen in the varied repertoire from jazz to R&B tunes from the 1970’s - 2015. Samples of its music can be heard on this website.
Depending upon the engagement, Omni-Music can be a trio plus one singer, a quartet plus one singer or a keyboardist for special occasions. The group consists of a bass guitarist who sings, a lead guitarist who sings, percussionist, a keyboardist and a featured female vocalist who is quite versatile. The group plays for wedding receptions, banquets, family and class reunions, dances, anniversaries, birthdays, parties and debutante balls.
